Dear Room 20 Families,
We are all so excited to have made it to this point in the year! The students are ready for a well-deserved vacation. Check out what we were up to this week:
Math: Our mathematicians spent the week working on a mini geometry unit. They worked on measuring and drawing angles with a protractor, identifying lines and angles, and calculating area and perimeter.
Reading: This week in reading, we continued our unit on historical fiction! We practiced looking at minor characters and taking on the perspective of a character other than the main character. The 6 book clubs finished their books and wrapped up their conversations and stop & jots. After vacation, we will be doing a second round of historical fiction book clubs with new books! We will also be starting a historical fiction project.
Writing: This week in writing, students finished composing their literary essays based on the book Fox. All students now have 5 full paragraphs! We will be publishing these essays after vacation.
Science: Our scientists started their next unit on energy transfers. Teams of students worked to build levers and added weight to the load while measuring distance from the fulcrum of the lever.
Social Studies: This week, students continued their study of the Midwest region! They also each finished researching a state in the Midwest and worked to create a brochure for their state.
Have a great April break!! :)
