Dear Room 20 Families,
We made it to winter vacation! Here's what we were up to this week:
Math: Students completed a very short chapter on squares and rectangles and took the chapter 11 test. They are excited to start learning about fractions after vacation.
Reading: We learned about the elements of cinquain poems as well as bio poems. Students read examples of each type of poem and worked on writing their own poems. They were also able to publish some of their poems on the computer.
Writing: Our writers concluded their opinion pieces and worked on editing their work by pushing their thinking. Students published their opinion pieces on the computer.
Science: Our scientists followed the engineering design process and improved their designs for permeable concrete. They created a second prototype, tested it, and collected data. All teams of students were able to create a more permeable prototype the second time around. Students discussed their findings and wrote conclusions comparing the data from each prototype.
Social Studies: Students did an awesome job presenting their family history projects. We were so proud of all of their hard work and loved learning about where our families came from. Thank you parents for all of your help and guidance with these projects!
Reminders:
Winter break: 12/25 - 1/1
School resumes: Tuesday, 1/2/18
