Dear Room 20 Families,
We've jumped right back into it after vacation! We're now in the home stretch of the school year from now until June 20th! Here's what we've been up to this week:
Math: Our mathematicians spent Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday working in centers to review previously learned math concepts from earlier this year. Some topics included angles (using protractors to measure and draw angles), geometry, area and perimeter, and fractions. Students took the math MCAS on Thursday and Friday. Overall, students reported feeling confident while taking the test!
ELA: Students worked on identifying character traits of Dog and Magpie (two characters from the book Fox). This led them into some work to get them ready to write their literary essays. Students also spent some time getting ready for spring open house next week and wrote about moments in fourth grade when they have felt the most accomplished.
Science: Our scientists started a new unit on sound waves by completing part of a K-W-L chart (Know, Want to Know, Learned) and also going on a vocabulary scavenger hunt around the classroom. We were impressed with students' prior knowledge of sound and are excited to dive into this unit!
Social Studies: Students began studying our next region - the Southwest. Students colored in the region on their large maps and created their states/capitals flip book. There are only four states in the Southwest, so students are glad they don't have to memorize as many states and capitals this time!
Reminders:
