Dear Room 20 Families,
We are all so excited for the holiday break! It was a busy and fun-filled week here in room 20…check out what we were up to!
Math: This week, our mathematicians finished up our unit on metric measurement and conversions. We were so proud of the work that they’ve done! We also briefly touched on customary units of measurement.
Reading: This week in reading, students worked on finishing their three-paragraph letter in which they had to include a summary, a description of a character/character trait using evidence from the text, and a rating of the book including someone who they would recommend it to.
Writing: Students finished publishing their realistic fiction stories! They have been thrilled to see all their hard work come to life on the computer.
Science: Our scientists observed different types of rocks and noted the characteristics of them. We learned about the rock cycle and students were able to explain how rocks undergo a transformation through weathering, erosion, and subduction. We also studied Pangaea and learned how plate tectonics have shaped the Earth over time.
Social Studies: Our students started to wrap up their study of Washington, D.C. They learned about the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and Vietnam Veterans Memorial. They also worked on completing their research and informational videos about Washington, D.C. during library! We will make sure to share these videos with you once they are finished.
Other Events: To kick off our next social studies unit on immigration, we invited some adults into our classroom to share their experiences about immigrating to the United States.
Reminders: Holiday Vacation: Monday, 12/24 – Tuesday, 1/1. School resumes on Wednesday, 1/2
Have a relaxing holiday and a Happy New Year!
