Dear Room 20 Families,
We had a busy week back to school after a restful Thanksgiving break. Check out what we were up to:
Math: This week, our mathematicians worked on identifying and using problem solving strategies. The strategies that we worked on were: finding a pattern, guess and check, work backwards, draw a picture, and make a list. We also spent some time reviewing long division.
Reading: This week in reading, students continued working in their guided reading groups and worked on writing about their reading in their reader's response journals. Some groups finished their books or are close to finishing. We also started a new read aloud book called Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo.
Writing: This week, students finished writing all five scenes of their realistic fiction stories. They also began the editing/revising process and worked on "show don't tell" by adding descriptive words and more dialogue/actions.
Science: Our scientists completed an investigation in which they identified the three types of plate boundaries: convergent, divergent, and transform. They also looked at world maps of earthquakes and mountain ranges and discussed the connection between these maps and our plate tectonics map.
Social Studies: Our students began their study of Washington, D.C. They read an overview and were also able to take a virtual tour of the White House. Students were also each assigned a monument or memorial to research and will be completing their research and making an informational video during their library time.
