Dear Room 20 Families,
Check out what we've been up to this week:
Math: Our mathematicians continued to work on their math games. We also had another "expert" group of students teach our class this week! Jessica, Kate, and Emma M. reviewed fractions with our class and they did a great job!
Reading: Our class finished their final letters for The Lemonade War. They did a great job summarizing, describing characters/traits, making connections, and rating the book! Students were also placed into new reading groups this week. Each group was able to choose what they want to read and is responsible for planning out their work/discussion times. This will be more student-led, which we are very excited for! Students will be working on a project to "advertise" the book that they read once they have finished reading.
Writing: Students chose to write either an opinion, realistic fiction, literary essay, or informational piece. These are all types of writing that have previously been taught and worked on during the year and now students are working independently. Many students are choosing to write either realistic fiction stories or do some research for an informational piece!
Science: Our scientists started our last unit on light and communication. Students played a memory game to learn the vocabulary in the chapter. Vocabulary words include: code, communicate, decode, digital, encode, light, reflect, signal, and transmit.
Social Studies: Students continued to do research in small groups on a state in the Southwest. Groups began making PowerPoint presentations for their states and will be presenting them next week!
Reminders:
