Dear Room 20 Families,
Apologies for not updating our site last week! With the students off on Friday, it slipped our minds. Here's what we've been up to this week:
Math: Students finished chapter 8 (adding and subtracting decimals) and took the chapter 8 test. We also started reviewing 4th grade concepts from earlier in the school year to prepare for the math MCAS, which will be taking place at the end of April.
Reading: This week, students took the practice ELA MCAS test online to get a feel for navigating the MCAS website. Students also worked on reading and responding to a practice MCAS essay question in small groups. After working on their own essay, each group read another group's essay and gave constructive criticism as well as compliments.
Writing: Students continued to build their skills to get them ready for the literary essay. Students practiced ways to push their thinking and find evidence in a text to support their thoughts and ideas.
Science: Our scientists continued their work with our electrical energy unit. Teams of students were given materials to design and build a model car using a motor and a simple circuit. The students are excited to finish building and test their cars next week!
Social Studies: Using a variety of resources, each student researched one state in the Midwest region. After their research was complete, students worked on creating a brochure for their state!
Reminders:
