Dear Room 20 Families,
Our students had one of their best weeks yet! Check out what we've been up to:
Math: Our mathematicians learned the standard model for 2x2 and 3x2 multiplication. We were really impressed with the way this class takes risks and isn't afraid to try new things and make mistakes! We also started reviewing basic division from last year. Our class had a strong knowledge of fact families, which helped them with their division.
Reading: This week in reading, we started new guided reading books. We have five guided reading groups happening at the same time! It's amazing to watch students facilitate their own reading and talk about the texts with one another. Next week, we will be practicing responding to our reading through writing.
Writing: To continue preparing for our narrative writing unit, students looked at all of their lists that they had created for important people, places, and events. These lists helped them to come up with a realistic story idea. Students then began filling out a plot mountain for their story idea, focusing on thinking about the beginning, climax, and end of the story.
Science: Our scientists completed a lab in which they compared the speed of a marble to the height of a marble track. Students then filled out a graph based on their lab data and wrote conclusions where they analyzed their data and were able to say if their hypotheses were correct or incorrect.
Social Studies: In social studies, we filled out a study guide for the Northeast region and began looking at the states and capitals. We also gained some background knowledge by learning about Hershey, Pennsylvania and the Hershey Chocolate assembly line! We discussed the pros/cons of assembly lines and why assembly lines were important for production in the Northeast. We will be doing an activity in class next week where we put our students to work on an assembly line!
Reminders: Saturday, 10/27 - Spooky Fun Fair and Monster Mash
