Dear Room 20 Families,
Happy Friday! Our week was jam-packed with fun activities with the field trip to Lowell Mills and Global Play Day! Check out what else we were up to!
Math: Our mathematicians continued to compare fractions and kept working on adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. We practiced working on word problems and discussed strategies that could be used to help identify the important information and operations needed to solve difficult word problems.
Reading: This week in reading, we started our new unit on historical fiction! We learned background information about the WWII era through watching videos, reading picture books, and having rich discussions. We will be starting a whole-class read-aloud next week called Number the Stars and students will also be gearing up to start new book clubs next week.
Writing: This week in writing, students did some ground work for our next unit, which is the literary essay. Students practiced finding evidence to support their thinking by using our whole-class read aloud, The Watson's Go to Birmingham.
Science: Our scientists continued with the unit on plant and animal structures. In groups, they created food webs using the chart they had made last week about producers, consumers, and decomposers.
Social Studies: This week, students finished their state postcards for the Southeast region. We also played Kahoot to review for our Southeast quiz!
Reminders:
