Dear Room 20 Families,
We've had a busy week back to school after our week off!
Math: Diving back into our work with fractions, our mathematicians learned how to compare fractions using tape diagrams, number lines, and by finding common denominators. They are doing so well with our fractions unit!
Reading: This week in reading, we practiced working in "book talk" groups. During our read-aloud, students sat with their groups and we paused periodically to have them discuss questions with each other. They also practiced responding to our reading through writing.
Writing: This week in writing, students worked in Google Classroom publishing a second opinion essay. For the first essay, they were required to write about a person, but for the second piece, they could choose any topic.
Science: Our scientists started a new unit on plant and animal structures. They played bingo to help them learn new vocabulary words, and they also answered some questions based off of the reading.
Social Studies: This week, we continued our unit on the Southeast region. We read about the culture, food, and fun things to do in the region. Students also started their state research projects! The final product after all research is complete will be a postcard from their state.
